Assessment in Finn Valley College places the student at the centre of the learning process allowing for new ways of learning and a broader range of skills to be assessed. Assessment is used to inform teaching and learning, track student progress, and report on achievement.

Written examinations – Class tests, Christmas, Mocks and Summer.

Importance of Student Reflection:
Students are encouraged to reflect on their own learning and discuss results and feedback with their teachers and parents/guardians to enhance their attainment.Teachers gather evidence of student learning through various methods, including observations, oral assignments, practical tests and classroom-based assessments.
Purpose of Assessment:
- Assessment is used to:
- Inform teaching and learning.

- Determine appropriate learning pathways and levels
- Identify areas of strength and weakness.
- Report on student achievement.
Reporting Practices:
- Students’ results and reports are communicated via VSWare and are issued after the Christmas, Mocks and Summer Exams.
- Reports include grades, feedback on student work, an effort mark and suggestions for improvement.
- Feedback on student progress and results of class tests are communicated via VSWare and recorded in the Tracking Section of the School Journal also.
- Parents and students may receive feedback on student progress through these reports and at our Parent Teacher meetings.
