Our Student Mentors are senior students who support and guide our first year students, helping them settle into school, build confidence and feel a part of the school community.
Student Mentors
These are positions of responsibility for which students can nominate themselves, they complete an application form and are then selected by the management team.
Roles of Senior Mentors:
- Act as positive role models for incoming First Year students.
- Serve as a friendly and approachable point of contact.
- Help ease the transition from primary to secondary school.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive school environment.
- Promote positive behaviour and school values.
Responsibilities of Senior Mentors
- Orientation Support: Assist with First Year orientation days, giving tours and explaining school routines.
- Pastoral Support: Check in regularly with assigned First Year students to provide emotional support and encouragement.
- Peer Guidance: Offer practical advice on managing homework, timetables, lockers, and finding classrooms.
- Communication Link: Act as a bridge between First Years and school staff, passing on concerns or feedback.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Observe and report any signs of bullying, isolation, or distress to relevant staff
- Confidentiality: Respect the privacy of students while understanding when to escalate concerns.
- Encouragement and Motivation: Support academic and social engagement through encouragement and positive reinforcement.
- Team Collaboration: Work effectively with other Senior Mentors and staff as part of a mentoring team.
