Student Leadership Team

Student Leadership Team – positions of responsibility for which students can nominate themselves. They can express their student voice and take up roles of responsibility.

Class Leaders and Student Prefects

Our Class Leaders (1st Year to TY) and Senior Prefects (5th & 6th Year) form our Student Leadership Team. Class Leaders and Senior Prefects are selected in May (except first years) for the next academic year. They will receive training for their roles following selection. These are positions of responsibility for which students can nominate themselves, complete an application form and which are then selected by the senior management team.

The Student Leadership Team are members of the School Development Team. This ensures that Student Voice is captured in the growth and development of our school. Members of the team also undertake training in Mentoring. They act as Mentors to our First Years from the initial Induction Programme and throughout their first year at our school.

There are two class leaders or Senior Prefects per class and one from the Leaving Certificate Applied class.

Expression on interests is then opened for the Head Boy, Head Girls, Deputy Head Boy and Deputy Head Girl positions. This involves an interview process with management and the Student Voice link teacher Miss Diver.

The Student Leadership Team has responsibility for:

  • Helping at student award ceremonies and parent teacher evenings.
  • Helping with student induction and entrance assessments.
  • Being a positive role model for other students.
  • Being positive ambassadors for the school and representing the school with pride.
  • Co-operating with staff on a daily basis.
  • Supporting students who may be struggling and alerting staff of their concerns.
  • Acting as fire marshall for the class in the event of a fire drill.
  • Presenting to local primary schools in the area on a range of topics.
