Student Council – a representative structure through which students can debate issues of concern and undertake initiatives of benefit to the school and the wider community.
Finn Valley College acknowledges and supports the important role that students have to play in the life of the school. In supporting the student voice in the decision-making processes that guide school policy and procedures, it is essential to have strong voices to advocate on behalf of students. The student council is an excellent way for students to voice their views on different aspects of school life and represent the views of all students.
The Student Council meets on regular occasions throughout the year to discuss matters of concern to students and to bring forward new ideas that may help to improve student life and to develop the school. The Student council helps to promote a positive school environment which is conducive to educational and personal development. In addition to meeting as a group in their own right, representatives of the council also meet with the school management:Our student council works with a liaison teacher, who is the link person between students, staff and management in the school. The liaison teacher for Student Voice is Miss Diver.
The Student Council has responsibility for:
- Working with the staff, Board of Management and Parents’ Association in the school.
- Communicating and consulting with all of the students in the school.
- Ensuring that the student voice is involved in all aspects of school life.
- Involving as many students as possible in the activities of the Council.
- Planning and managing the Council’s programme of activities for the year.
- Gathering opinions and feedback from the student body through the suggestion box and student surveys.
