On Tuesday 3rd March the student well-being were delighted to get the opportunity to meet to prepare to deliver their peer to peer lessons as part of the Cycle Against Suicide’s evidence-based Post Primary Schools HEADSTRONG programme
This awareness programme teaches young people to
’Be Brave, to Reach out and to Speak up!’
Well-being coordinator Ms Molloy facilitated this training with the support of the team’s chair person AJ Breen.
Next week the team will deliver lessons to all 1st & 2nd years, during well-being class on the topics of what is mental health & wellbeing, and the stigma of mental health.
Our HEADSTRONG Programme supports mental health education, reduces stigma, promotes resilience and fosters a sense of belonging among young people.
Our HEADSTRONG Programme encourages young people to take care of their wellbeing, addressing day-to-day issues they have to deal with and sets out to help educate other students in their school.
Cycle Against Suicide’s HEADSTRONG programme aims to:
- Develop students’ confidence and competence to act in support of mental health and wellbeing.
- Examine the factors which impact on mental health and wellbeing and develop young people’s ability to act on behalf of personal and group health and wellbeing.
- Increase students’ self-awareness about the attitudes, values and beliefs that underpin health, personal lifestyle behaviours and choices.
- Foster students’ capacity to empathise with others through a greater understanding of different life experiences, motives and feelings of other individuals and groups
